Afghanistan

An entire generation in Afghanistan knows nothing but war. The fighting, which has killed millions of people, has not stopped for more than 30 years. With out parents many helpless, innocent children are left to struggle for survival in an angry world.

According to international agencies, there are currently more than 2 million orphaned children in Afghanistan. 700,000 of them live in sub poverty conditions.

Meanwhile, according to the UNHCR there are approximately 50,000 to 60,000 street children in Afghanistan’s capital, Kabul alone. Other organizations estimate that number to be much higher.

Shakir spends his days on the side of a dusty main road in Kabul. Sometimes he sells incense smoke from a dirty can of burning coal to ward off the evil eye. Other times he might sell eggs. 10 eggs cost $1USD

The Aim

ORPHANS OF WAR (Helping Children in Afghanistan & The Swat Valley)

“Orphans are the most abandon part of our society. They're the most depraved part of our society. They've never seen a sympathetic response to their needs.
So if they are left in the same situation as it is, the day will come when they will be the most reactionary, the most revengeful part of our country. And it will disturb our country and of course…the others!”
